A therapy pool is usually a small pool, not too deep, and not too shallow - for therapeutic exercise. Water exercise is often used by physical therapists for those recovering from accidents, stroke or disease, and physicians recommend it for those that are in treatment for nearly any ailment, including arthritis, fibromyalgia and MS.
Why is water exercise a leading form of therapeutic treatment? First, it's low-impact - the buoyancy of the water prevents stress on joints and healing bones, and also prevents falls while exercising, so common in dry land exercise. Secondly, the resistance of the water amplifies the workout, making small movements effective. Third, it's cooler to work out in the water, without heating up and shvitzing - like dry land exercise.
Indoor pools are most useful, so you can use your pool year around, without having it fill with leaves and bugs. Indoor pools also need less chemicals and maintenance overall, and warm naturally to the temperature of the air above.
